Americana
2011.AMERICANA examines American identity by exploring the often stark contrast between our own perception of what we stand for as a nation and how we are perceived throughout the world.
This feature documentary tells the story of two teenagers who wrestle with their decision to enlist in the U.S. Army. Their decision is juxtaposed with portraits of people from all over the world who have lived through war to provide a unique and revealing insight into the cost of war and the forces in society that make those costs acceptable.
“the result is a powerful documentary that confronts America’s superpower status and worldwide perception.”
- THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
“quite possibly the best exploration of national identity since Edward Morin and Jean Rouch documented French working class frustrations in “Chronicle of a Summer.” - INDIEWIRE
